Industrial and Production Engineering Dept.

Welcome to the Department of Industrial and Production Engineering

Department of Industrial and Production Engineering is the newest Department in the School of Engineering and Engineering Technology. This programme is an amalgam of mechanical engineering, industrial engineering and management science. Industrial and Production Engineering is primarily concerned with the development, improvement and implementation of integrated systems. These systems include human being, money, knowledge, information, equipment, energy, materials and processes. The philosophy and the target objectives of our programme are briefly highlighted.

Philosophy of the Programme

An industrial and production engineer is concerned with optimization of complex processes, systems and organizations. The main areas of specialization in industrial and production engineering covers Operational Research, Applied Ergonomics and Industrial Health and Safety, Simulation of Production Activities, Process Design, Advanced Manufacturing Technology, Design and Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Project Management and Implementation, and Automation and Robotics. To meet these requirements, the philosophy of the programme has been designed to:

  • Provide a 5-year degree programme to produce highly qualified industrial and production engineers with broad-based knowledge.
  • Provide in-depth knowledge and competence in the latest design and manufacturing techniques.
  • Produce graduates that have practical and interdisciplinary skills
  • Produce graduates with a high degree of business appreciation and  managerial skills.
  • Impart good organizational and communication skills.
  • Train graduates to develop the art of team work and leadership quality.

The main objectives of the programme are to:

  • Provide a 5-year programme leading to Bachelor of Engineering degree in Industrial and production Engineering.        .
  • Enable graduates develop the skills in design and manufacturing required by employers hitherto not readily available locally.
  • Produce graduates that combine theoretical knowledge acquired during the programmed with practical skills developed during students work experience schemes, industrial training arid final year project to develop a reasonable level of the practical competence required by employers
  • Enhance their entrepreneurship skills and technical competence to be self-  employed in consultancy, manufacturing or service industry.

Produce creative and innovative graduates that are socially responsible and able to communicate effectively.
